Quick Tips
iOS requires at minimum 6.7" and 6.1" sizes
App Store Connect will reject apps without these two display sizes.
Use PNG or JPEG — no alpha channels
Apple requires flattened images. Transparent backgrounds will be rejected.
Upload up to 10 screenshots per locale
Apple allows 10 screenshots per display size per localization.
Google Play max file size is 8 MB per image
Minimum 320px, maximum 3840px on any side. JPEG or 24-bit PNG.
Google Play requires 2–8 screenshots per listing type
At least 2 phone screenshots are required. Tablet and Chromebook are optional.
Lead with your best screenshot
The first 1–3 screenshots drive 80%+ of conversion. Put your strongest value prop first.
Why the exact pixel size matters
App Store Connect and Google Play Console validate screenshot dimensions against a fixed list, not a range you can eyeball. A file that is off by even a few pixels gets rejected at upload, not after review, so there is no benefit to guessing and every benefit to checking the number first. Uploading at the wrong size also usually means your image gets stretched or padded by whatever tool produced it, which softens text and misaligns device bezels in a way that is hard to notice until it is already live. Start from the required size for your platform, export exactly to spec, and let the store scale down for smaller devices rather than designing at an arbitrary size and hoping it fits.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need screenshots for every device size listed here?+
No. Apple requires screenshots only for the largest display in each device class (6.7" iPhone, 13" iPad); it scales them down automatically for smaller models. Google Play requires only a minimum set of phone screenshots, with tablet and Chromebook sizes optional.
What happens if I upload the wrong dimensions?+
Both App Store Connect and Google Play Console reject the file at upload time rather than accepting it and scaling it, so you will see an error immediately instead of a rejection days later.
Can I use one image for multiple device sizes?+
Only if the aspect ratio matches. Apple's 6.7" and 6.1" iPhone sizes have different aspect ratios, so a single image resized to fit both will look stretched or letterboxed on one of them.
Do these sizes change often?+
Apple and Google update required sizes when they release new device form factors, roughly once a year. This page is checked against current App Store Connect and Play Console requirements.
Should I design at the required size or a larger canvas?+
Design and export at the exact required pixel dimensions. Scaling down from a much larger canvas at export time is fine; scaling up a smaller image to hit the requirement will look soft.
